the above is a criminal underground production. you can buy cd's from eric broadbent, practical academics, and the trip at the show, 5 bucks.

admins: sorry for the really crappy looking administration site. i just realzied how awful it is. i will get on that this weekend. thanks for bearing with me.

and i have a few site features to add in the next few weeks you guys should love (hopefully).

the email admin@peilocals.com now works and goes to gabrielle. this email was down for a while, but should be up and running now.

hi guys. the messageboard is disabled till monday as we are doing some testing and troubleshooting over the weekend to find out why the server keeps crashing.

merry christmas!

 Harry Doyle December 14, 2003, 5:05 PM

it's quake 2 sunday! every sunday at 10pm we're having a few multi-site (cb/hfx/pei/moncton) quake free for all games. feel free to connect to quake.locals.ca tonight at 10 (sydney time) if you're up for some fun. we will also be running a roger wilco basestation at the same address!

 Harry Doyle November 20, 2003, 1:07 PM

hi guys.

i seem to have made a somewhat grievous technical error a while back. i was going to make a different messageboard for each site, and pineau suggested that one messageboard with different forums would be better. i completely agreed with him, and well, monctonlocals had more posts so i am merging everything else into that messageboard. unfortunately, your posts and user accounts are in the old database. i am REALLY REALLY sorry for this inconvenience, and i hope i don't do anything similarly stupid in the future. hopefully we can chalk it up to a case of bad planning on my part, and i hope it's not too painful having to register again.

take care
harry

 Harry Doyle October 23, 2003, 4:26 PM

i'm installing a (pre made) messageboard for the guys at monctonlocals, so i'm going to install one here too. i was going to code one myself, but i really haven't felt like doing anything productive, and i'm sure this will give you more features than i could give. as a result, i will be getting rid of the (useless) user account thing i built. the software will be php2bb. if anybody is hard set against this, please email me at harry@cblocals.com.
thanks,
harry

john bruhm writes in:

This isn't really "news," but it does concern bands, so here goes:
A LOT of you who frequent this site are in bands, many of whom I've not yet covered in my Atlantic Buzzes on Chartattack.com. Granted, I can only write about so many per column, but I try my best to cover as many bands as I can.
Now, I don't have contact info for all of the bands in Atlantic Canada, but I'd like to extend the offer to anyone who's in a band to send me their contact info (ie website, e-mail, phone number), and also to let me know what's going on with your band these days.
I can't guarantee that I'll be able to cover everyone whenever they send me info, because I'm only really allowed to write 500 words every second week, and that's pretty damn hard to do, when there are 4 provinces and 7 major cities to cover. But, if you would be so kind as to keep me up to speed, I'll try my best to mention you whenever I can.
Anyway, if you'd like to send me some contact info and/or news (e-mail jonbruhm (at) hotmail (dot) com), that'd be totally rad. Even if you think I already have your contact info, please feel free to enlighten me again. Webpages make it easier for my to research your band (and I can add you to my huge-ass page o' links, e-mails are good for periodic updates etc, and phone numbers are great in the event of an interview, or if I need to get ahold of you immediately.
Also, if anyone feels like sending me their demo or a copy/burn of their CD, please feel free (I can't really use MP3s, tho, since my burner's kinda crappy). As I've mentioned on here a few times, I have a radio show on CKDU and I'm always looking for more stuff to play by Maritime/Atlantic bands.
Yeah, so please feel free to get in touch.
Cheers,
JB

i'm in the middle of adding messageboard functionality to the codebase so that existing user accounts and profiles will be able to access it.

the reason i took it down was because stephan requested me to do so. most likely that was because of the amount of brutal counter productive fighting going on.

i would appreciate it if you guys bore with me for the next few days while i write the appropriate code. i would rather not have a seperate messageboard on a different site/server.

this (my post) is actually a waste of corepage space, so sorry!

 Harry Doyle June 8, 2003, 12:11 PM

hi guys. stephan has requested i remove the guestbook so i have for now. we are having similar foolishness with the cblocals guestbook so i am going to work on a threaded messageboard which will require usernames/passwords to post. if anybody has any questions/comments feel free to email me at harry@cblocals.com.

 Harry Doyle April 21, 2003, 5:27 PM

hi. i broke the guestbook. but it's fixed now.

SORRY!!!!

 Harry Doyle March 14, 2003, 11:23 AM

hi guys
there is going to be a 12 hour network outage next wednesday as we relocate our webserver. during that time the site will be unavailable, but i expect things back up and running early thursday.
harry

 Harry Doyle October 6, 2002, 12:26 AM

since things rarely go off without a hitch.. there was a problem with the function that adds new user accounts.. so for those of you who signed up, please do it again and you should receive a confirmation email with your login info..

 Harry Doyle October 5, 2002, 1:20 AM

well, the codebase appears to be working, and this site is running on the exact same code as cblocals. neat.

things are under construction a bit. there's some formatting issues, and probably some bugs in the codebase i haven't tracked down yet. some of the font alignments are off and whatnot - just some minor things to fix up.

so what's new.. well, softlinks for one. just surround a piece of text in square brackets. like eyes for telescopes or cblocals or fuck. use it in news, events, guestbook, and bands. softlinks are always black, so you'll know if a link is going to an outside site or an encyclopedia search. advanced softlink options coming soon.. plus there's the band list linked to the encyclopedia searching tools. you can search the site and get results from just about everywhere. plus the random picture screensaver and new quickpics option. log in and get an account and mark your last guestbook post and chat with other uses (more user stuff coming soon). vote in the polls. check out the links section.

lots more coming soon. enjoy!
harry

update

i might attempt to roll the codebase out tonight, which will give a lot of features, and put us in a good position to update the look/feel a bit quicker. so if the site's down tonite, you'll know why. sorry about all the downtime lately!

hi guys.. new server getting installed tomorrow night so there might be a few hours downtime, but we're upgrading from a p133 to a p3-800 so expect a speed bump.. mike lecky where's this new peilocals design? i wanna roll out the new codebase!!

 Harry Doyle September 20, 2002, 2:31 PM

the codebase has been completed (well, first batch of features anyway), and up and running on cblocals..

mike lecky is going to be working on a new design for peilocals, and when it's completed we'll roll it out here..

judging on the shitload of traffic you guys are already giving peilocals, i think you're going to love the additions!

 Harry Doyle August 6, 2002, 10:33 PM

hi guys
the new codebase is nearing completion. user accounts, preferences, web-chat that doesn't suck, and encyclopedic-like site searches are on the way. should be done by sept 1 if all goes well.

i'm looking for someone to help maintain the look/feel type stuff so if you're a true html/php/photoshop guru, fire me off an email and we'll chat. the new codebase ain't gonna be pretty when i first unleash it, but there'll be enough new gadgetry to play with that i guarantee you won't be dissapointed.

take it easy,
harry

 Harry Doyle May 5, 2002, 8:45 PM

irc

it's fun and addictive. figure out how to install it, and come hang out in #peilocals on dalnet (there's already a #cblocals with 50 regulars). in no time you'll be failing school, getting nothing done at your job, and spending your friday nites on the computer!

 Harry Doyle April 26, 2002, 4:19 PM

i just thought before i started work on the new codebase, i'd put up a truly ass kicking picture archive. fully searchable, you can add keywords, dates, categories (all pictures are currently in the 'misc' categories).

have fun!

 Harry Doyle April 25, 2002, 11:59 AM

hey dudes.. i got the database stuff straightened away today, and i'll be starting work on the new codebase on monday. i won't need to take the site down anymore... hopefully :)

 Harry Doyle April 14, 2002, 5:07 PM

hi guys..
hate to do this to you especially with the amazing job everybody has been doing here. but i'm going to be disabling a lot of the site for the next 2/3 weeks (maybe even a month), as i work on the new codebase.

basically, the codebase will make one piece of core code usable by all three locals sites. i was going to wait till i was finished the codebase before i put peilocals up, but i kept putting stephan off, and made this site based on the hfx code (ie, hack job).

right now the technical side of things is a real mess, so i'm going to take some times to make the databases similar, and tidy up the code.

the new site will have all the features cblocals was enjoying like user logings and preferences, chat, an encyclopedia, and other stuff. it's going to be cool.

also, the new site is going to use xml/xsl for formatting, so if anybody here is a design guru and would like to make a custom interface for peilocals.. um... email me in three weeks or so :)

peace

 Harry Doyle March 14, 2002, 10:07 AM

hi guys.. we're switching servers later on today, so expect things to be kinda wonky for the next 36 hours or so. sorry for the inconvenience, but this will help network speeds, and give us the ability to easily expand the sites as they grow.

note that pictures and sounds will be out of sync for a few hours too. sorry about this!

 Harry Doyle March 2, 2002, 3:37 PM

ok, this is a bit better. i've got windom earle on the admin list, and an email set up at pei@locals.ca. hopefully he'll be able to add some admins, and get some news and events up. admins can add sounds and pictures, but please lay off the sounds until we get our new server and net connection up. also, check out the links, which will probably have a pei category and links in the next few days.

things (graphically, functionally, etc) will be changing over the weeks/months, like they usually are with locals, but for now, make yourself at home. comments, suggestions, code improvements, bugs, etc, can be sent to me at harry@cblocals.com

 Harry Doyle March 2, 2002, 2:56 PM

hi.. welcome to peilocals.com!

but it looks like halifaxlocals!

that's ok, it's only temporary.. this is basically because in order to make new locals sites i have to make actual copies of the code and revise it to work for a new site. this is probably the absolutely worst way to do things, but it works for now. we're working on a new codebase with shared code, abstracted look/feel/function, and other neat stuff..

but, what do you care.. stay tuned for locals news, events, pics, sounds, etc.. all from pei. :P
